Boston Sailing Center
As spring begins its transition into summer, the Boston Harbor comes alive with sailboats. The Boston Sailing Center, just a half mile south of Battery Wharf Hotel, offers classes and cruises on the Charles and beyond.
Founded in 1977, the Boston Sailing Center is open everyday from 9 AM until sunset from May to October. Located just a quick walk down Atlantic Avenue or the scenic Harborwalk, the sailing center is housed in the unique Louisiana Riverboat on Lewis Wharf. This floating clubhouse and classroom offers courses to accommodate all levels of sailing experience from first timers to those capable of long coastal cruises or night sails. Furthermore, charters are on offer for any boat in the fleet. Looking for a relaxing cruise around the Harbor or Islands? Want a more fast paced team building activity for your colleagues or family? There are more than 75 boats in the fleet, which range from 23-foot daysailers like Sonars and Solings to 40-foot cruisers like the majestic Beneteau Oceanis. The staff of lifelong sailors, some of whom have competed in world class fleets and made trans-oceanic passages, is experienced in working with adults of all abilities.
During the summer, the sea breeze tends to fill in by late morning and will continue to build throughout the afternoon. Our perfect day consists of brunch in the Aragosta Bar & Bistro, a quick, meandering walk around the wharfs to the south until you hit Lewis Wharf and the Sailing Center’s riverboat home. After your day on the water, head on back to the hotel for dinner, cocktails, or one of our urban bonfires out on the Aragosta’s Terrace. If you’re in luck, one of the Center’s Tuesday-Thursday racing series will be filling the harbor. The racing series is one of the largest one design racing programs in New England and is held on the inner harbor, especially fun viewing from the breezy open-air Terrace where a beautiful, sweeping view of the racing with Boston Waterfront as backdrop is on offer.
